IMG_0664.jpeg This is not very spectacular, but still I m happy with my newest purchase: a Victorian garnet crescent moon brooch!
I bought it online and it arrived home from -again- France. It cost the full 15€ which is in my opinion a steal.
(I half expected one of the stones to be missing but to my delight they are all there and intact).
Again it was packed in only an envelope (what's wrong with those sellers!) but luck was on my side this time and its still in good shape.
Its a Victorian crescent moon and star brooch. The garnets are really shiny. At one point in time it got a new clasp but it doesn't detract from its beauty.
Also I believe its previous owner scratched the hell out of it (see its back) to see if it was gold, which it clearly isn't.
    Some people...sigh
I have some other crescent moons laying around but this one is my new favorite.
So what do you think about it?

Gorgeous. I have one too, always love them.:) Bohemian made, and sold all over Europe. Even in Bohemia.:jawdrop::playful:

I read in a Dutch journal that Bohemian travelling pedlars sold this type of Bohemian garnet jewellery at Dutch country fairs in the 19th century. Bohemians also sold beautiful ribbons that were used in Dutch Brabant costumes.

Any Jewelry, thanks for your reply!
Would love to see yours one day.
Yes, these were sold plentiful in the days...must have been modestly priced so that 'de kleine beurs' the common man also had something shiny to wear.

Absolute bargain. Whoever scratched it is a total idiot. These were often brass for a start.

    Beautiful!

I’ve had two spoons shipped to me in just an envelope. Makes your skin crawl when they come in. One was coin silver, arrived in one piece. It was already not perfect so not sure what warps and bends were new and which weren’t. Second was a delicately carved Yurok Native American spoon of wood or antler. It arrived with some little chips broken off in a couple spots. I was really bummed about that one. It was someone new to online selling/shipping on a local marketplace. The silver guy I think was just lazy. Glad yours arrived in one piece and not bent up.

Aquitaine: its the scratch but now the fish really sticks in my head, thanks!
J Dagger, thank for your reply. I hate it when people send stuff just in an envelope.
Its like saying: 'I dont value you or the things you bought at all.'
I m sure some people are just plain stupid and not volunteering evil/lazy though.
So sorry to hear the Native American spoon got chipped.

Bosko thanks! the background ceramic is a small seventies ceramic coffee table we bought a few years ago on a flea market for a few euro s.
It perfectly fits our bohemian/jungalow/-we are too lazy to decently furnish our own space- living room:hilarious:

I've noticed the serious Picker/Collectors have very eclectic living spaces. The more you study Arts,Crafts & Industrial Design-your tastes broaden, and while a conventional Interior Decorator may see a 'hodge-podge' jungle, your fellow enthusiasts will see a beautiful garden of many hued colors.

    Bosko,
What you say is very true. In fact I studied interior architecture. Never worked as one though. I can make space beautiful but not my own where I live. :hilarious:I do find beauty in small objects though.

Same here. A total mishmash of styles, cultures, junk and treasure, you name it. Second hand furniture, even hand-me-downs. Lots of paintings, antique and by friends, Asian art, etc etc. And big plants, typical Dutch.;)
Everyone who visits loves it here though (wat is het hier gezellig!:)), so it can't be too bad.:joyful:
