Pretty sure it’s irrelevant as pertains to value but anyone recognize the style of decoration? No marks. They came in a collection of mostly early 19th century Staffordshire animals. I think these just looked close enough that they got stuck in the display. Just ruling out anything interesting in regards to maker. Every time I don’t it bites me in the @$$. They are nice enough and around 4”. They don’t look older than 50 years old or so to me but they could be I suppose. 1BBB3EF6-5D3D-4DD4-884B-8089790EA22A.jpeg 6D7ABA1E-0198-4815-A9AA-50D9FA581BD3.jpeg

Here's a somewhat similar one that sold for 87.99. That's kind of dear for a deer ...

That is dear! $1 for every gram of kitsch! It’s in that same vein, mine are just a bit more reserved.

My first instinct was to call the Midwinter one Lizzy the Llama.(LOL) Or Alice the Alpaca? The OPs do look like deer.

They are something else…I kinda like the crows, skunks, and squirrels. The rest are a bit too cutesy for my taste.

Found them!! Pacific Pottery Standing Deer #1311 and Leaping Deer #1312. Page 162-163 CALIFORNIA POTTERY SCRAPBOOK by Jack Chipman (from Pacific's artware catalog of 1941 showing assortment of animals produced in the early 1940s.)

Wow--there must be some subtle difference between those and the Rio Hondo, maybe size?

In this case, I think the subtle differences are in the decorations: lines on ears instead of covered ear flap; painted instead of unpainted base; nostrils instead of dot nose; leaves and flowers instead of dots and lines. These aren't fakes (intent to deceive) but rather copies made by a company with "subtle differences." I don't know which came first, but if I had to guess I'd say Pacific Potteries was first of the two.

Interesting that the mold was shared amongst several companies. Any chance you can grab a photo of those pages? Thanks much.

Here's a bit more from Jack Chipman re: similarities in 1940s California figurines. He notes that designers/mold makers worked back and forth between these companies, that molds were sold by companies when they were through with them and that some figurines were made from "stock" molds. It appears the only way to ID some California figurines is from catalog photos, from surviving labels or from finishing techniques. Thanks to Jack Chipman we have a catalog page of these!
