Isn't he handsome. I would have spotted that clear across the room and made a beeline for it!

It seems to be a rooster - so would it still be for coddled eggs??

I have a pitcher that would be happy to share shelf space with him ;) except I'm not allowed to buy anything else at the moment. (I went a little crazy at the recent antique show in town)

One year for Easter, I was given a pair of chicks. I named them Icky and Sticky. (Sticky met a sad end which we later considered might have been Suspicious.) Icky, however, grew and throve. He learned how to get out of the hen house by himself, and spent the summer diving at my five-year-old ankles from ambush.

His facial expression was very like Kaiser's creature.

One day he disappeared. Oddly enough, no one looked for him, and no one spoke of missing him. (Certainly not I, as I mopped up my bloody ankles!)

A few years later, my grandmother told me that he was the toughest, most sinewy bird she had ever cooked.

Appears to be at least partially cold-painted so not majolica.

We usually had about 30 chickens. When I was 10 I got a pet duck. The rooster used to chase the duck. One day, he got his foot caught in the fence. Feeling sorry,
I freed him and, silly me, brought him into the kitchen to bandage his foot. He started flying around and slashed my cheek open. My Dad came home and that was the end of the rooster. And he was quite tough!

Ours was named Cocky. A Rhode Island red and the meanest thing going. One day I was out in the chicken yard with a hoe ( I had learned to carry a weapon ) and he was determined to scratch me to shreds so I swung it right as he was flying towards me and I guess I broke his neck ! He kept flopping around making this horrible noise and I of course was traumatized and deeply guilt ridden. My brother dispatched him with a .22 pistol, and my dad was very angry at me. I think i was 12-13 .Funny, until your post I hadnt thought of that in decades !

I've had a couple batches of chickens in the last 30 years that I raised from chicks. I tried to get hens but there were a few roosters.

One rooster I had caponized by an old vet around here. (fixed) It took the crowing out of him for a very long time!

The last rooster I had would sometimes get aggressive towards me but I'd just grab him and hold him tight until he stopped squirming. He'd act humiliated and back off for weeks:hilarious:
