Just found this at the Junketeria-'aha-a French Horn'...not so fast ! I sent an email off to one of numerous brass instrument specialists. He said 'Not a F. Horn-it's a Mellophone.'
Mellophone-does that mean you can use it as a Bong ? Doubt it,but it will look nice on the wall w/ dried flowers popping out of the horn, like classic 'bohemian' beat decor in the 50's & 60's.
    PS-It's also suitably 'Beat' up-made sometime between '39 & '40 (serial number).

What does it read? MADE IN __________ LOS ANGELES, CALIF is all I can make out. State abbreviation dates it to pre-1963.

    Here tis Debora-'Ambassador/Made by F.E. Olds & Son/Los-Angeles/Calif.'
PS-Why's there a Hyphen (dash) between 'Los' and 'Angeles' ? I remember learning cursive writing as a wee-one in ancient times & writing 'Calif.'

I'm intrigued by the unique descender on the letter A in 3 places...but no other indicator of extraordinary characteristics in that 'font'. Must have been just the eccentric whim of the engraver...like the dash between Los & Angeles.

Whit-I think you may be right ! Maybe the engraver was showing-off w/ a bit of artistic license.

Mellophones are straight for use in marching bands. Sure looks like a French horn.
