Tonight is antique night at my regular weekly auction. I stopped by today for a preview and something caught my eye.

Since it’s the monthly antique night, there are some higher end items and usually the hammer prices range from somewhat stupid to borderline idiotic.

that said, I try to do my research in advance as to avoid getting caught up in the moment and overpaying.

one of the items tonight is an old storage case / store display for Venus pencils. The one at the Worthpoint link is complete with the incredible topper.

The one at my auction is missing the topper, but it’s still a cool little piece, plus the drawers are filled with art pencils, pens & pastels.

I was not able to find one on eBay for comparable pricing. 1st dibs example is missing the topper, and the price is missing sanity.

    Worthpoint: (thanks in advance)

There are others that sold for $200-$300, more recently, and in better shape than your example.

From little paper-clip containers to large library card catalogs, people seem to be looking & paying more for antique containers.
Point of purchase items though have always been good.Folks used to call em Country Store/General Store Antiques back in the Kovels era.

Last year sometime, I picked up an oak machinist tool chest (missing front cover) at this same auction. I gave it to my wife as a gift, thinking it would come in handy in her craft room to store all her little tools.

nope, she uses it as a decorative piece.

last spring, leading up to Easter:
