My wife and I recently picked this up at an estate auction. We love it, but have no idea what it is, maybe a potpourri holder, we don't know.
Seller of this similar calls it a "covered compote." I'm not in agreement re date. https://www.ebay.com/itm/275232293565 Deboraa
One would assume, since you can see right through it, that it's NOT a soup tureen!!! Unless of course the soup were in a container within!!! It IS LOVELY..... with a beautiful design!!!!
Well the dimensions are similar. The bowl is about 7 1/2" and overall handle to handle is a little over 11" the body of it is 7 1/2" high and the lit adds another 4". So we will go with a compote, I can picture berries being in there. Thank you all for your help.
not seeing a cake related object; more of a reticulated covered compote/fruit bowl/basket; some may add Capodimonte style from the applied flowers, but Capodimonte is typically much more ornate...
Date-wise, looks to be 1960s-1980s. We get a lot of this type of Italian ware in the secondhand shops in France...if it's not marked Capodimonte, it's probably not from that region (usually they are marked as such) but it is in that style.
