Featured Old Walking Stick

I got this old walking stick many years ago and do not really know anything about them. This one is 31 3/4" long. it looks like the shaft is bamboo and the handle and tip are made of bone but not sure about either. The bottom of the handle is monogrammed " C.R.P. to G.R.W." Any ideas on age or origin? Thanks in advance for the help!

I wouldn't rule out ivory, but can't see to be sure, thinking maybe japanese, definitely asian

Doesn't look very comfortable to hold though

 

It is a snake climbing up and the guy is holding a knife waiting to stab it.

Thanks for all the feedback! I noticed after posting the initial photos that it appears the head of the boy is made of a different material, perhaps ceramic? Would this be typical on a piece like this?

Fantastic stick!!! I have a good sized collection and pickup interesting ones when the price is right. I only have one Asian one so far. I’d guess the head is a repair. Lot easier to find someone to make a clay one than a carved one of bone or otherwise.

 

Actually, it looks to me like the head has been painted or coated with a paint or something that hasn't stuck particularly well.....it looks like it's the same bone or ivory as the rest of the figure.......by the red arrows you can see it......

Considering the material of the carving - the basic "L" shape seems unlikely in either bone or ivory. But it might be a type of antler. The rounded end looks like it might be a pedicle - the part where the antler connects to the skull - and the knobs may be what are called "pearls" (knobby growths on the surface of some antlers). The odd surface of the head of the figure might be a part where the spongy interior of the antler was exposed, and so filled with some material. I have been trying to find a likely species candidate, but it might have been an atypical antler such as this example:

Maybe you can get the wood identified and it will help locate the place of manufacture, although it looks Chinese to me. Is there maybe a legend of a snake chasing someone up a tree? The man is holding a rather large knife pointed at the snake.
