Featured Ancient ring?

My son just found this ring whilst playing in the garden I think its bronze but I know nothing about it would be nice to know age etc

Interesting construction, is it pinned at the interlocking connection?

 

Given the patination I'd think it old too.

 

I wouldn't discourage you from exploring the possibility of antiquity, but to my eye it looks more Art Deco signet ring that was never engraved.

I would expect metal containing copper (bronze, brass) to oxidize if left in the ground for any length of time.

 

I'm also of the opinion that it is Art Deco in design but I believe it to be possibly much newer. Yes, a signet ring that was never inscribed. It looks like it could be bronze to me too.

Yah, it's hard to tell. It's extremely a lot of green patina that hasn't "ruffled up" from being out in the garden weather for an unknown period of time. I do think it's bronze though, so that may explain the preservation.

In fairness a brass/bronze ring could look like that after about 6 months in the ground depending on conditions. Doesn’t look ancient to me based on design. I’d agree with 60-100 yrs or so based on others comments and Chinoiseries link.
