Identify sligh desk, stand, and dresser

I have a sligh desk with chair, dresser and stand. They all look to be part of a collection. They were my grandparents. Possibly my great grandparents. Unfortunately someone painted the wood. And we are looking to possibly refinish them. I decided to try and look into them.But cant seem to find any that have the same style. They were a dark wood. On the back of the desk i found the numbers 2294. The dresser i have not found anything yet but, havent looked at the back yet. The stand 2394

 

Hi, these are nice older wood pieces probably made of mahogany. The feet may have been cut down, or perhaps they are simply missing a wooden roller ball for the bottom of the original foot. It's hard to tell but if they once had roller feet, you will see the grommets in the holes for the hardware on the bottoms, or at least the holes that the rods were secured into. You should also be able to tell if the feet were cut down at any point in time by flipping it over.
IF this was done, it would be my opinion not to spend the effort to refinish these pieces, and just use them as the utilitarian pieces they were made to be.

Hopefully a furniture guru will stop by to take a look, so please check back. I would peg your style at 1900s but I wasn't able to find the exact look of the feet online. They do look like they've been cut down to me.

 

I don't think it is that old. From what I can tell, the metal tags came after 1926. Styling suggests that this could even be later than that. It looks more post-WWII to me. A look at drawer construction and backs might help to pin this down a bit.

 

Agree with Verybrad: In fact, I’d say that this set is 1960s.

 

Many of the Sligh catalogs can be found at the great Grand Rapids Public Museum online collections. It looks like Sligh numbered their models sequentially, which would put 2294 in the 1930's-1940s. A 1931 catalog lists a bedroom suite with number 2294 in a beechwood finish. Unfortunately, only a few pages of the catalog download, so can't see the page that has the #2294 pieces. Maybe you can contact GRPM and request them.
