    Hi All,

Just got this brownware pottery pitcher that's 12 inches tall. Was told it's likely 19th century southern U.S. Any thoughts on maker, especially with that notched outer pattern?

    Thanks!

A very long time ago I was researching a sherd that had the picked lines pattern.

If I remember (and I'm not at all sure I do) I think I found similar surface treatment on German pieces.

Hopefully someone will have better information. I don't remember if I saved the research somewhere. It wasn't a piece of mine.

Of course with handmade pottery, anyone anywhere can produce any style.

I pulled out my book American Stonewares by Greer and wanted to offer a little bit.

Thank you for looking it up SIS! Hard to tell the glaze and colors from the black & whites, but I do see the picked lines in the latter pitcher. Would you lean toward German origin for mine?
