Franz Hanfstaengl (1804- 1877) Think I have figured out. A crystoleum print right? Nice little message on the back (prosperous and happy life) It’s only 9x12cm. Any comments appreciated. Thanks

Crystoleum print isn't something with which I'm familiar, but looking it up, I kind of doubt that this is one. The man was both a lithographer and a photographer. It's not out of the question. This looks to me like the reproduction of a painting, not a photograph, and not the type of image that would have been used for a crystoleum print. It seems a fairly labor intensive process that probably had a high price attached. I doubt there would be a profit on using the technique to reproduce art. But all this is based on an obviously very brief look online and could be entirely incorrect.

The image depicts the Regency Era as interpreted through a turn-of-the-century eye.

Thank you. I appreciate your response and opinion. I also only learned of crystoleum prints today so will do some more reading . I did find this example. The glass on my little picture is also bubble.

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

@Boland, is that a 'treatment' around the edges? And what does it 'feel' like it's on.....glass, canvas, a type of paper...something else???? I just did a quick read on 'crystoleum'....have to read more to better understand..........

The picture in your link looks to be an art reproduction as well, so if that's a crystoleum print, I guess yours could be as well. That's a lot of effort to put color into a print. I don't know why a technique like that would be embraced by an experienced lithographer... but there you have it.

Thanks for taking an interesting. I now cleaned around the edges using a earbud. Mostly years of build-up dust but it also revealed a small section of what looks to be very fine crystal residue underneath or inside the glass. Very good call, thanks again:)

Agreed. Sounds like pain and very labour intensive. But an interesting process (glad to have learned about it)
