Could we see the business side of the ring? It may give clues to origin.

I’m seeing 585 in that small mark and 830. That implies either a mix of gold and silver or plated. But we do indeed need the whole thing.

I'm seeing 835 in the larger mark which would be a tad over 20k

The mark isn't foreign to me.:playful: It is the post-1953 Dutch oak leaf gold mark, in this case for 20k.
If these are the only marks, it was most likely made before 1975, which is when Hallmarking Convention marking came into force.

I'm guessing a traditional Dutch ring set with a facet cut garnet or carnelian?

That's OK, tiny marks are tiny marks, impossible to recognize some of the time.:inpain:;)

Taking off foreign, I’ve just had an American chap on Facebook describe Leerdam glass as being Scandinavian from the Netherlands.

    I despair.

I've come across many people who think the Netherlands is a Scandinavian country. I suppose that they don't look at geography, but at culture. In that sense it is understandable.

Btw, Scandinavia used to be just the Scandinavian peninsula, Sweden and Norway. Northern Finland as well, to some.
Nowadays Denmark is often included, sometimes all Nordic countries.
We could be regarded as Nordic, culturally close to Denmark, although we also have strong historical ties with Belgium and France.

Someone else accused Malta of being in Italy.
Does no one learn geography and history any more?

That map is not too far off the way some actually view the world. I can understand being slightly confused by Malta; the people there are a mix of every part of the Mediterranean and have nothing to do with malted milk balls. (and yes there are parts of the USA where that sentance makes sense.)

The Maltese language is the biggest muddle going. Words that start with an x!

Maltese is a Semitic language, related to Arabic and Hebrew.
Fortunately for us other Europeans (and North Americans) most Maltese speak excellent English and Italian.:)
Don't let the spelling confuse you, the x is pronounced as a sh, as in shoe.
