Featured Cranberry Glass and Silver Pot

    Good afternoon all,

    I hope you can help me. Just having a look at some things but can't work out what this interesting little pot would be used for. I assume it would be some sort of salt pot or smelling salts? It's sterling silver dated 1903 and from what I can determine it was by Cornelius J Vander. Any help would be gratefully received.

    This will be my first attempt at uploading images here, so please fogive me if there are issues.

    A friend of mine found it at his mum's house, and as he knows I collect coins etc, asked me if I knew what it was.

    That would make perfect sense as there was a little pot of snuff in the box. Thank you very much indeed.

    God forgive me but that was my 1st thought too ! Back in the bad old days that would have been perfect for that !

    London 1868 hallmark
    4 Woodbridge Street, Clerkwell (1851), 20 King Square, Goswell Road (1855) and 11 Lavers Road, Stoke Nowington (1880) [should be Stoke Newington as any Londoner would know]

    The picture is none too clear but I believe that the hallmark has the wrong "h" for 1863 and that it was correctly identified as 1903 and J.V as Cornelius Joshua Vander by Kip Ray.
