I found this broken beauty in de kringwinkel (thriftstore) today for 1,5€ and I was just stunned!
Its a necklace, the clasp consists of two tigers/snakes? with stunning eyes and it had 8 strands of pearls (they are real).
The heads look to be wax of some sort with silver? Foil on top of them. Some parts of the foil are loose but I think I might be able to fix it.
This is so different from what I normally buy.
It looks Moghul-style but I just cant find any more info on him.
    Anyone an idea? IMG_9887.jpeg

Gorgeous, Dessert. I think the heads are meant to be lions, those 'scales' being stylised manes.
Not strictly Mughal, but yes to India/Pakistan. Similar ones are still being made.

Bosko, yes, it looks like foil over paraffin or something alike.

Wlwhittier, yes, havent counted but it has lots of tiny pearls.
And for 1,5€ I guessed I have my money back on the pearls alone :D

Not natural resin? Paraffin and a hot climate are not the best combo.

Kyra always throws in a few swearwords, that seems to help.:joyful:

And if it doesn't go as planned, there is always another day.:)

Certain plant resins would seem less susceptible to heat to the Indian heat.Tropics, intriguing to visit-but the climate ? A big effin' Yucck !

Any Jewelry, yes indeed a natural resin seems more plausible.
My kids dont like me using swear words, so I usually try to plan my repairs when they are not around :angelic:

Possibly just as well. If the repairs don't go well, you've enough pearls to keep you out of trouble for a while.

As a Yank-UK & European Thrifts blow my mind ! Seems like every Good Will & hole-in-wall charity in the US thinks they're Antique Roadshow now.

...and charges accordingly. Or, if they're the Ill Will they send anything "good" to on-line auction and only send something worth buying to the stores by accident. I have hopes that the new store near me is better, but they opened on the on day I couldn't get there (and the bum knee was really acting up) and I haven't tried since. They'll have more on the shelves at least. Anything worth buying remains to be seen.

Evey-It'll be a new knee for me in the not-so distant future.I've got a new thrift opening-up nearby soon.Every picker within 60 miles knows about it,but it'll only be a mile away.I'll still be able to do all my 'honey-do's' & do a quick browse !
Our local Good Wills seem to examine all their donations w/ an electron microscope-no Mughal troves on the shelves anymore.

Where I live there are a lot of male pickers going to the same Kringwinkels I go to.
They all have a very big ego and they would fight each other for the light of their eyes.
Some have bonded with the Kringwinkel-personel so they get first pick always.
Muslims also frequent the same places, but they all seem to be looking for different items than me and sometimes you just get lucky.
I find the majority of my stuff online. The Kringwinkel-finds are mostly one of a kind dumb luck and some experience seeing nice things.

Bosko I hope your knee will get better eventually!

There are still Kringwinkels that don't curate their stuff, but w/ Antique Roadshow,Ebay & Covid- Picking has exploded. These 'rookies' don't know what our members do about Jewelry or Ethnic Art,but grab anything cheap & curious.
-Many people are manically aggressive-the scene's become more unpleasant.
Scouring the internet will probably yield better returns, but buying internationally requires patience.I bought a piece from a lady in Eindhoven
Netherlands on May 29 -don't know if it will take weeks/months to get thru US Customs.$158 US Dollars-will it get thru Customs, who knows ?
But it's a cute (but real) Decorator Piece, needs a 'Damper'.
    Etsy Pipe..jpg
PS-Thanks for the knee prayers Dessert. My knee will (?) get better once i go under the knife & get a new one ! It's been 66 years since i last got surgery-so i'm a pretty lucky guy.I know 'kids' in their 30's or 40's who've had many,so it's been a win (so far).
