I think it's brass. White metal - silver. Could it be 1824? The size of the halves is 12.5 x 6 cm.

I read F Grosiean? Could it be an older spelling of Grosjean (French name)?

Interesting. Has anyone encountered a similar fastening of the buckle?

Florian Grosjean was a metal manufacturer. I bet this was a personal item he made for himself. My husbands great-grandfather, Arthur T. Parker, had a company that made metal plates that went on boilers and furnaces, that type of thing. In his spare time he also made personal items. He graduated from Bowdoin College and I'm attaching photos of two items we have that he made. He also made two large plaques with his grandparents family crests.

I found something. And I think that it may well be his belt. There is a lot of interesting stuff here. Florian Grosjean (1824-1903) was actually the founder of a large area of New York City (Woodhaven). The fate of this family is very interesting and tragic. Thank you.

20230612_154604.jpg Screenshot_20230612-160834_Chrome.jpg I can now really see the Masonic symbols. Here is a hammer, an ax, a planer, a compass, a square.
