I found this paperweight in an antique shop and am hoping to identify who made it. I love the colors and craftsmanship. It has a maker's mark embossed on the underside in the shape of a plant. I was hoping maybe one of you would recognize it. Thanks for checking it out!

That’s an impressed flame mark pontil. They were used by Kerry Glass in Ireland and Isle of Wight Glass. Yours looks like the latter.

Armed with the knowledge that it is a flame pontil mark, I found the following:

"The flame pontil mark, with the flame part on the left hand side, was used from 1974 to 1979, and much less frequently thereafter. Last use was about 1982. Therefore, generally speaking, the flame mark is a 1970s mark.

Note that the flame mark was also used by Kerry Glass, with the flame on the left hand side (early pieces) or the right hand side (from some time in the early 1980s to 1985). The tool supplied to Kerry Glass to make the mark was subsequently lost and re-made by them from an impression from existing stock. Hence the mirror image.

Following inquiries to IOWSG it has been established that the flame mark was not used by St. John's Crystal on the Isle of Man. St John's Crystal was never supplied with the embossing ‘Flame Logo’ tool and so it is not possible that items thus marked were made there. The tool was supplied only to Kerry Glass."

Therefore, if I am understanding correctly, it seems that this piece was made by Kerry Glass between 1980 and 1985.

I don't know your paperweight and I find your mark a little hard to make out.

When I first saw the mark I started thinking of an Isle of Wight piece I have that I'd been looking at recently.

If at all helpful, here is that mark and a link to the discussion where I'd first shown it (my mark photo there was hard to make out too). Your flame does appear to be on the right.

It seems based on what I read as if the original pontil tool had the main part of the flame on the left, but since Kerry lost theirs and made a mirror image, they are the only one that had the flame on the right side like the one that I have.

And the link with all of them, as well as Mdina is Michael Harris.
