Just a Chihuly wannabe but by who? About 9" at the widest point. Ground but not polished bottom. Signature is hard to read/photograph. Last 2 photos are enhanced versions.

I’ve seen the Chihuly in the V&A and also his exhibit at Kew Gardens, which was astonishing.

Bosko is right the Museum in Tacoma is wonderful. Twice i have spent 6 hours there watching them blow glass. Then to walk along the bridge with all those beautiful pieces shining in the sun is stunning.

I picked up a box while working in my classroom one year. something "stuck" me. I immediately dropped the box. I checked all around but could find nothing except that I had dozens of little hairs stuck in my arm and they would not come out. Called reticulating hairs I believe. I went to the DR under workman's comp. When i told him i thought it was a spider, He said we are going to have to call it a caterpillar. Spiders are not covered under workman's comp in California but caterpillars evidently are! Go figure.

I went with friends to Corning, New York in 2015 for the 100th Anniversary of Pyrex. The museum entry has a floor-to-ceiling Chihuly piece that is absolutely staggering. There are other large pieces in other areas which are just as mind-boggling. I wish we could have stayed the whole day there.

Edit: The Steuben collection there is equally incredible as well as many other things. This are the things that stick out in my memory though.

We actually have 2 pieces of Chihuly here in Columbia.

The first was installed in 2010 at the Columbia Art Museum.

The second one is at the USC Law School which is a fairly new building that I believe opened within the last year or so.

I am one of the few that is not a big fan of Chihuly. I find much of his work overly fussy and colors garish. I find the hanging ceiling works over the top and repetitive. Seems that every museum and grand public space has to have one. I did attend an exhibit at Garfield Park Conservatory in Chicago where I found the installations in the water and among the plants interesting. I also saw his documentary and gained a bit more appreciation for him as a result. I am sure the museum would be well worth going to.

Back to the matter at hand, any ideas on the signature? Guesses, even? Does that last bit look like it could be the year, 2006?

He had a show at RISD some years ago that included the Persian Ceiling. Awesome. MFA in Boston has one in the common area where the restaurant is located. Chihuly MFA.jpeg

I was in Seattle in March to take my daughter and granddaughters to the Space Needle. Well next to it is a Chihuly exhibit which was fascinating and there was a demonstration of glass blowing, too. I do agree with Brad that some of it seems overdone, but gosh, when it works, it's amazing.

Here are a couple more signature enhancements.

First is the above enhanced signature taken a step further.

This is the other signature photo that is not as clear overall but does show some bits better.

It is a tough one. It is written on an undulating surface so that exacerbates the problem. I took about 15 photos of the signature and these were the best 2. For what it is worth, I see maybe J. Mo???rize. Not sure about any of that but maybe a place to start for someone.
