Lane Altivista VA end table style 1096 02, serial 2760930.

Reverse image search shows similar looking tables but this has an all wood pull and straight wood legs, not the typical cylindrical ones with gold bottom.

Can't tell if this is not worth much because of the legs and pull or if it's a one off?

Hi Z1ggy and welcome. People here are reluctant to click URLs, so it would be better to post the direct URL to each Image, not the imgur page with all photos.

Have seen variations from Lane over the years. I wonder if they were made for particular large retailers to provide a unique option. I think value would be similar but demand might be less if there is not a lot of it out there.

I've seen refinished ones going for $175 all the way up to $400. Is there a way to gauge which end of the spectrum? The legs are what worry me... They don't look as premium. I might consider replacing.

Would think the lower end of the spectrum. People seem to want what others have/want, or are trying to match something they have. On the other hand, the latter aspect could work in your favor if there is someone out there needing this piece.

Not sure where you are buying/selling. Lane brings nowhere these kinds of prices in my Midwest neck of the woods. I would be lucky to get $50.00 on most Lane stands. I also thought your buying prices way high on your Drexel pieces. We wouldn't probably pay more than $15.00 each in that condition.

I'm in the NYC area. According to wiki, my county and the two surroundings are all in the top 10 for most median income in the country. Expensive living conditions and higher income means 2nd hand market can get high. Restored mcm items around here could go over $1k depending on what it is.

Question for you fine folks - assuming this isn't a one off rare piece, would this look offensive if I added some gold or even black hair pin legs?

Many times if the item isn't worth a full and true restoration, I just make it look trendy, sometimes I'll add paint if veneer is in really bad shape.

I would think it would hurt its value as a true MCM piece. I understand painting a damaged piece but not one that can relatively easily be refinished. However, you know your market so it might be the right thing to do. Here, good MCM furniture is about the only furniture worth refinishing true to form. About everything else gets painted.

I agree... Mcm is best getting a true restoration but I've seen some folks around me use paint on a few places, mostly on the body, likely if veneer is so far gone it's easier to use Bondo and paint.

I think I'm going to see what it looks like after a good deep clean and then some salve or Restor o finish, then assess if the veneer chips can be repaired with a bit of touch up pens.

Thanks everyone! I'll post a pic of how it looks after in a few days.

    Need help:)

After stripping and sanding the top, I sealed it then stained with American walnut gel stain. I need to go a little darker to match the edge banding but I don't want to lose the grain.

I'm thinking of toning with some mohawk ultra classic but I'm not sure which tone shade to go with. I'm thinking dark walnut or van dyke Brown... Any experience with these two shades? Or other techniques/products?

I don't know, but will try tagging @verybrad on this one.

I am not really experienced with toning products. These MCM furniture pieces often had a pigmented sealer applied prior to finish application that is hard to replicate. The use of toners can help to even out your finish and darken it so I think you are on the right track. As to which to use, it seems that the lighter tone would be better, as you can always do a second application if not dark enough.

I'm going to be using mohawk ultra classic toner, just waiting for it to arrive since my local retailer doesn't have any in stock.

Toner worked great! I did 4 very light coats of perfect brown. I found the finish is failing on the drawer so I stripped everything and will tone that to match. Have a few touch ups to make where veneer was chipped and I'll be done!

Plan to list for $149. We'll see if there's any takers. I'll post final pics tomorrow or Monday.
