If you want to see how the stuff looked when it was going into the 53-foot truck, here's a video, with some more detailed views and explanations of a few of the pieces toward the end. Yes packing and loading that much heavy stuff was a real chore, it took a crew of 5 a few weeks to do it.

    Hi,
I have a friend in Staten Island that has 30 or 40 cannons and thousands of muskets and stuff. His two story garage has a huge lift for moving the cannons around. It is so impressive but he is very quiet and you would never know he has anything in his suburban home. I bet he has bought or traded cannons with you. You guys are so out of reach, I am in awe.

Are you sure you want to part with them?

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Amazing -- and, no wonder we haven't seen you around here lately. Major downsizing in progress!

Wishing you well with the auction. Looks like it will be in October?

First auction is Oct 7-9, of the stuff that was in the first truck. Second auction, with another truckload or so, is in Spring of 2015. Yes it will all go under auctioneer's hammer. Looked like a good time to do this, my company has been looking for the right auctioneer to do it for some time now. James Julia, the auctioneer, and his cannon expert really wanted this collection and they flew in a couple of days after I called them. Don't forget to send the link out to everyone! http://www.springfieldarsenal.net/main.sc

I would think you would do fine with enough advertising and notice time. Looks like you will have both. I don't know how many people buy cannons but it will probably only takes a few with deep pockets at a well publicized auction to get the fever going. As with most auctions, I imagine there will be some lots you are disappointed with, while others will exceed expectations.

The company is paying hundreds of $K per year now renting three buildings and would rather build or buy a headquarters somewhere further out in the Washington DC suburbs, so any funds generated by the sales will help.

That's exactly what I'm expecting. If there enough bargains, maybe that'll whet peoples' appetites for the second auction in spring 2015.

I think the answer to your questions is "Yes". Yes, you will make money, and you will saturate the market for future sellers. Which is not your problem.

When you said "selling out" it made me wonder too. So downsizing and re-locating mostly?

Selling out the cannons, which make up about 5% of our inventory. All the other nautical, militaria, etc. is still there and we'll still be selling it.
