The clasp is base metal, the beads seem to be stone, the yellowy ones definitely are. I have been to the local antiques and collectables fair today and it said buy me, so I did as it was a bargain and is rather nice :)

The metal looks like Indian "white brass", aka nickel alloy. The greenish beads look like glass. Age is...not much. It's pretty and if the price was right, it was a good buy.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

It is pretty -- looks well balanced in its construction.

A lot of these were coming out of Afghanistan a couple of years ago. All very pretty, and using different Afghan stones. The metal parts could be Indian import, they look towards India a lot.
Afghanistan is a treasure trove of beautiful stones, the most famous being top quality lapis lazuli.
Not sure anything is coming out of there since Taliban rule.:(

If I remember correctly, they used Roman glass beads in those Afghan necklaces as well, that is what the translucent beads probably are.

Thank you, I hadn't thought of Afghanistan. Hadn't thought of anywhere really, just "oh look, pretty" and then it was mine. It's always interesting to learn a bit about the things I've bought, not only for making more accurate listings but because I just like to know :)
