    Edward Wolfe spent 18 months in Mexico c.1934, and certainly painted in gouache while there

    A painting done in Mexico would be more likely to turn up in the USA than one done in Spain. I wonder if a slight oddness about the picture might be due to a darkening of unpainted areas of the brownish card on which it seems to have been executed.

    Went southward to Taxco according to his biography. A place where white buildings are painted with red stripes.
