Hello Board Buddies! I don't really know what to do with this giant bowl. It weighs a little over 11 pounds. Measures a little over 3" tall and over 13" long. If I've figured out the assembly right it has a clear glass base, then a gold foil layer. Then the whole piece was covered in a final layer with amethyst along the edges. I have no idea what I'm going to do with this thing - it's way too heavy to ship. Might just have to find a home for it here. There is the remains of a label. Maybe a generic Italian or Murano label? I can read Made and Mu. Any help on the who, what, when, where would be much appreciated. Thank you!

It is Murano, I have a book somewhere that might be able to identify the factory from that label - I'll take a look. The gold layer technique is sometimes called "aventurra" if memory serves ..:oldman:

Well the book, (auction catalog actually) only showed the earlier foil labels, however scalloped edged ones are most often from the Seguso factory. No guarantees though ..;)

    Aventurine, rather than foiled.

I never heard this particular method called either foiled or aventurine. I thought aventurine was when gold bubbles were concentrically formed around a piece? Definitely is Murano glass though.

In an earlier post I think I said the technique was known in Murano as "aventura"

It's gold foil inclusion, if you look at the second to last pic, the edge of the broken-up gold leaf sheet can be seen - aventurine/avventurina is a different technique, with a different appearance, neither having anything to do with controlled bubbles, other than they may be used on the same item...

Is the sticker by any chance similar to this one?

Sorry about the upside down thing. It was right side up when I copied it from my listing for a couple of clear glass Murano Christmas trees. :p:p:happy:

Hi Peggy - I'll double check but I think my label is smaller and more oval than that I think. Thanks for the photo.

And thanks everyone! It's always such an interesting discussion on the terminology for these items. If it would help I'd be happy to try and get more close-ups.

Here's a page that gives some simple descriptions of Venetian/Murano glass techniques - it has a couple of images of Avventurina, can scroll down a bit for the gold and silver foil/leaf inclusions (Foglia d'Oro and Foglia d'Argento): https://veneziaautentica.com/murano-glass/
