Are these earrings 60’s Mod, 80’s Big ‘n Bold, or New Cheap?

I’m posting 9 pieces/sets of jewelry today and will appreciate any and all information and opinions the jewelry experts wish to offer. I paid 50 cents for these large unsigned door-knocker pierced earrings and thought they might possibly be from the 60s. Or maybe the 80s. They feel like acrylic or Lucite. The stripes appear to be carved or recessed into the plastic.

I think the earring nuts will tell the tale, I don't think they were around in the '60s. Plus, if the plastic on the nuts is clear, I think they must be very recent. I think as they get older the plastic turns yellow.

Of course, the nuts could be replacements!

I think the earring themselves could well be 60s & the clutches later. Can see why you would need the support for the earlobe these clutches provide to help offset the size of the dangles.

Those are pretty long for the 1960s and, of course, they wouldn't have been pierced then. I vote retro.

My college years covered the mid-to-late 60s when fashion changed from the early-60's Jackie Kennedy/Givenchy style to Twiggy's neon mini dresses and huge dangly earrings in bright neon colors and black and white op art designs. What I'm not sure about is whether any of the big dangly earrings were pierced (I only wore small stud earrings). Looking at fashion pictures from that time period, it seems some huge dangly earrings hung pretty low on the ear lobe to be clip-ons. Here's an example from a photo on Flikr (not mine).

They were clip-ons until the late 1960s/early 1970s when pierced ears became hugely popular.

Thanks Debora...I appreciate your helpful information. I decided to do an image search (which I should have done first) and found the same pair on Etsy described as "Chunky Statement Earrings with Black and White Stripes 1980s Fashion Dangle Earrings." They have the 60's-70's small metal earring nuts without clear plastic, so maybe they really are 60s-70s--or as Marie mentioned, the backs could be replacements. I'll probably list them with a few other complementary earrings. I'm spending way too much time on a pair of inexpensive earrings, but I'm away from home dog sitting for several days and trying to keep busy.

My vote is sixties but modified.

Construction on the dangle is interesting. The stripes look sort of cut away, kind of like "cut to clear" on glass. A little more work went in them.

I appreciate your opinion OBB. Maybe I will list them individually. I wish I had brought along the photo I use of the head of my 1970's mannequin when I sell earrings, so I could work on the listing while I'm dogsitting. I got the idea of using a photo as the background from someone here on Antiquers, but don't remember who it was (if anyone knows, please tell me so I can thank her or him). Here are a couple of examples (I had the photo printed so it was as close to life size as possible, then mounted it on foamboard and punched a hole for pierced earrings, and have a second photo with a bigger hole for clip earrings).
