Thanks Mikey,i did see those overblown prices ! Of course i always get Chairish & Firstdibs prices in my dreams. The one sold listing i found in the real world was Ebay- sold for $500 !
I've got figure out how to ask this seller if he might have a barn full of these.Heck,i'd even pay the Chairish membership dues if i could find a container full of crucibles.
Of course i'd have to sell em fast before the market pancakes.
PS-These seem to be coated in brass, bronze & some other ferrous metals,They're actually quite beautiful.

Those are utterly fabulous. I could see those with a tall silver leafed shrub in them.

Thanks Bear-we love them.Tall silvery shrubs would look extraordinary. They're reminiscent of old primitive but elegant Japanese pottery. My lady put an oiled filled bowl in one last night & lit it-it makes a striking little fire pit ! The only thing we'd never grow in them are of course edibles, what with all the metal salts, etc.

She's got a much better eye than me,a keener aesthetic sense.Strangely enough, the pots both weigh exactly the same- 19.10 pounds

Anything that likes acid soil would be happy, too. The leeching and all that. It wants something a bit sculptural which won’t hide the pot.

Up here we're surrounded by acid loving conifers, rhodies, etc.
$299.99 shipping ! It's like someone in a James Bond movie-'I don't care what it costs-i want it'. If i'd been born that rich,i'd had to have bought 5 or 10 more houses to store my knick-knacks.

I’d suggest planting whatever you choose in a plastic or fibre pot or basket which fits into the crucible. That way you can lift it out to water it, and grow something tender which you bring inside in extreme weather.

It does mention on the Chairish site to bring them in in Winter-because whatever heat they can take, ice is their enemy. Thanks all for the tips, with you 100%.

If they’re cast iron, then yes, they can get brittle in extreme cold. I remember studying how Abraham Darby researched that.

I think basic early-mid 20th century crucibles for brass, bronze are made of some kind of ceramic & graphite combination, but with our pots I could be wrong. No worries because we won't be forging metal anytime soon !
    Here's more from Quora-
"I've seen crucibles made from materials such as ceramic, graphite, iron, molybdenum, tungsten, and platinum."
PS-I've lost enough pots in our winters to definitely play it safe.
