    Hello everyone,
I’ve just ventured to buy the below brooch, at a exorbitant price for what it is probably, lol.
Sterling silver, pearls and diamonds, 15 grams, 4.5 centimetres. The pink stones, I don’t know what they are.
Is it Georgian? I think is missing the dangling bit lol
What age would you put it?
    Is this something collectable?
    Thank you.
    Kind regards,
    Simona

Ooh, that’s lovely. Yes, one dangle missing. I think a bit later than Georgian, that hinged bale and the cut of the stones look more mid nineteenth to my eye. Be interesting to see what the marks on the bale are, too. I’m wondering pink tourmaline. But rubies are a possibility.

You could hang a baroque pearl to take the place of the missing dangle :)

Maybe a baroque pearl would look a little out of place. Or you would have to replace the other dangles as well.

You could also look for a similar dangle on Etsy, I'm sure one of the Jaipur sellers has a tourmaline dangle. The easy thing is that the setting is quite generic, and still made.

Tourmaline certainly comes in this color. However, think it is more likely the stones are corundum, somewhere on the spectrum between pink sapphire & ruby.

Thank you so much, I will post the photo of the marking when I receive it, just paid for it today.
I see that everyone unanimously likes the brooch, I am very happy to see your answers.
Will look for some Ruby or sapphire dangle to make it look complete, thank you again for the suggestions.
    Xx Simona

Do the pink stones test above glass? Perhaps they are foiled paste not a gem? Gorgeous piece whatever it is!

    Hi,
Just received the brooch, please see below photos of the hallmark.
I can’t make anything of it, I can probably imagine a pictorial on one of the hallmarks, looking like a person sitting in front of the tree. The second hallmark I think they are letters, but can’t make out.
    Any suggestions would be great.
    Thank you

I see indentations on the loop at the top, are those the marks?

Yes, the indentation on the round loop, lol. It’s difficult to make up anything.
I tested the stone with the UV light, and they are not Ruby. Maybe glass or pink sapphire. They do have different shades of pink, red and maroon.

Could be an Austro-Hungarian maker's mark, they often look like that and also on loops.

Pink sapphire also glows; it's just anemic ruby. Ruby is what we call the mineral corundum when it is red. All other colors are sapphire. Sapphires that are not blue are called fancy sapphires.
