    Hi,

I'm new to this site, but as someone who buys & sells as well as collects glass and china I'm really happy to have stumbled onto it. I got a pair of these etched water stems, 7 and 1/4 inches tall, which ping like crystal. The design is fairly elaborate with roses, leaves, circles with attached garland and birds. The birds look like a sort of Phoenix or Pheasant. I've done the Replacements picture search as well as a Google photo search and haven't gotten anything close. The bottom of the bowl has a thumbprint pattern and the stem is paneled with an almost cased affect. It has a starburst on the underside of the foot, but I don't see any sort of maker's markings. I've searched nearly all elegant U.S. Depression Glass (until I'm nearly nuts) companies I could find and been through the Gallery here and on Chat About Depression Glass. Do any of you good people have an ID or suggestions for me on where to look next? I hope I've done the pictures right!

    Thanks so much.

It doesn't look like anyone knows the pattern, but does anyone have guesses as to the area made? It looks kind of Bohemian to me - the thumbprint around the base and the heavy decoration. Does anyone else see anything on it to make them lean towards any direction in particular?

    Those are beautiful!
It reminds me of the "Chelsea Bird" china patterns.

I don't think this is etched, it looks engraved, a lot of work in that!

I think it might be at least partly hand done. Do you think the Poland/Slovik area would be more likely or somewhere else?

The bottom, stem and bottom of the bowl look cut and polished. The design looks engraved and left unpolished, that's why it's frosted.

Other than that, I'm afraid I can't help you, sorry.

Trial and error. Nudge it and fudge it.

These are so pretty!! These could have been made in the US, but I highly doubt it. They look relatively new-ish and too expensive to make here. The hand engraving of that quality and complexity is fairly expensive to produce. My best guess is an Eastern European crystal company (but don't know who or even any names). Although the first country that came to mind was Germany. Nachtmann, for instance, made a lot of patterns with those petal cuts on the bottom of the bowl. Your best bet if selling them is just to state what you can see - crystal, engraved, hollow stem, star base. Your photos are so good that you just need to be found and someone will buy them. I know I would if I weren't so ancient and trying to downsize.

Will do! They'll be going up on eBay in the next few days. I'm still giving it the old college try to be able to "name" them, but the result so far is more of that going nuts thing! Your mention of them as reminding you of the Chelsea Bird china pattern will at least let me reference a "known" type of bird for the ones on these..

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

I hope you had good luck on the sale of these, @Eleanor Price . And welcome to Antiquers!

    Hi all,
I've finally listed the pair of water stems on eBay in case anyone is interested in them. eBay number is 285294665836 (It won't let me put the actual link on here??). I hope they're priced okay, but please chime in if you think they're way off either way or if you think I'm off with the description.

Thanks so much for all your input. I still never found them, but have found enough similar that I think the Victorian Era, copper wheel engraved description fits.

Thank you for letting me know, I will keep an eye on them. :)

    I did ask. :shy:
There is a Marketplace "Sell" section of the Antiquers forum where I believe one can offer items up for sale? And the Marketplace "Auction" section states eBay links are permitted.

Thanks for suggesting this to EP. :)
