Featured Enamel Brooch

    Any ideas of the age and origin of this enamel brooch please?
    c4.5cm across.

    To begin with I thought it was one of those nice but modern enamel FISH brooches, turned it over and thought maybe not!
    I took a guess to myself that it was Edwardian, can you tell me what bumps it that bit earlier? Is it the length of the pin that overshoots the C clasp or the hinge at the other end? I struggle with hinges!

    Agreed on both. Clues are hinge and enamel style.

    So ridiculously long pins are mid Victorian or earlier, those that overshoot by ‘a good bit’ late Victorian and short pins Edwardian onwards. Give or take……?

    With the knowledge that it is French, I’ve had more success in finding similar, particularly in buckles. They are being described as Champlevé enamel, is that correct for mine?

    Yep. Usually about how I figure it. The longer the pinback the older the pin.
