It looks like a Bombe bedside cabinet. Maybe someone stripped the finish?

The back looks very old indeed. The front looks like older Bombay company - fitting. I'd bet this was faux-painted and someone stripped it.

Beautiful French Bombe nightstand. Love the grain; it almost looks like olive wood.

It does at that, come to think. I doubt it is, though; olive trees aren't cut down to make furniture anywhere that I know of.

Lovely, and I agree with antique bombe cabinet/nightstand, possibly Provence or Italy. I also think it could be olive wood, which is used for furniture in Mediterranean Europe. Not stripped, just the way it is.

I always think my cabinets will look like that someday, with the amount of stuff I put in them. Sadly they never do.:(

..something I've never seen before. I only see olive wood used for bitty items, not furniture.

Lovely piece of furniture. I've learned a lot from this discussion. Checked elsewhere to find Bombe and Bombay are synonymous. Thank you all.

Bombé and Bombay synonyms? Not sure they're widely used as such. What do others think?

No they are not. They sound sort of the same to some people, but that's about it.

The Internet is pretty dumb about some things.

Bombé is used for this rounded shaped furniture.
Bombay is the old name of Mumbai, a major Indian city.
The pronunciation is different, bombé being French, with a shorter sounding -é, and Bombay being the English transcription of an Indian name, with a longer sounding -ay.

Mind you, I have seen US sellers call bombé furniture Bombay, as if it was Indian made. What can I say....:(

They are probably thinking of the Bombay Company, sellers of furniture in malls. ;)

I usually check three different websites when I am seeking references; I only used one on this occasion.

    Thanks for putting me right.
