Mid Century Sligh Lowry Queen Anne Desk.

I don't usually buy furniture, And I haven't bought this desk. Yet.
This is sitting in the back of a little thrift near me. they are asking $95.00. I am in California. Is this a good buy. I see their Queen Anne style sells pretty well. Also have not been able to find one with the shelf on top and the sliding desk top.

See photo below from 1961 catalog. As discussed recently, the more traditional styles like French Provincial don't command the prices that some of their MCM or campaign desks do. If you like the style and can refinish it yourself, $95 isn't a terrible price. But you can probably find something similar in better condition for not much more.

I would not pay that but your market might be better than mine. I would have to paint it and the upside in my market would be less than $200.00 (Maybe closer to $150.00). Not enough profit in it for me. I also find that desks with hutches do not sell well for some reason. this is a bit different so could be an exception to that.

Here's a similar model in the white finish for comparison. This one sold for $73 on EBTH. I agree with verybrad that refinishing or painting is not worth the time if you're looking to sell it.

 

Hi, I picked this up this week and was hoping someone might tell me the value. I bought it to refurbish but I'm thinking it's too beautiful to do so. Has some damage on the desk, maybe 2 burn marks..the top piece needs to be reattached.

 

The value is what you paid for it. It is just used furniture so the value fluctuates due to market and selling venue. There is no intrinsic value since it is not collectible or antique. The value is in its utility. I think you did fine. Would say that is a typical garage sale price. You might see this triple that or more in a nice retail store. It would possibly sell for less at a country auction.
