Thrift find - Highwaymen painting?

I found this yesterday at my local thrift store while going through the new paintings that had come in. I almost passed on it because I thought it looked like a beginner's painting +when I searched 'H. Baker artist' several names came up & I couldn't tell whose signature it was. But figured I'd see what the manager wanted for it - especially since I'd found a few others paintings I wanted to buy.
But when my friend saw it he said it was a Highwaymen painting by Hezekiah Baker & I could have it for $1,200 or he was sending it to the owners.
I did some research while he went back to getting the store ready to open, but every Hezekiah Baker signature I found it looked like he started every H with a small horizontal line to the top left of the letter H so the left side of the H kinda looked like the number 7 + I couldn't find any with the letter B in Baker signed with the top of B larger than the rest - so that it looked like it was tipping over!
I passed on it because I couldn't afford to pay $1,200 without a matching signature, let alone with no COA.
Did I make the right choice - was this a Highwaymen painting?

I did buy a couple others, including 4 signed Paul Jenkins lithographs (one I dropped & broke the glass on, so I would have bought that one anyway but I ended up with the 4 because they were only $25 each) + a pretty floral painting that had a gallery mark/card on the back - but only the letter R for a signature! Can anyone tell me who the artist is?
    Or your thoughts on it?

Thank you for any information/thoughts on the floral & "highwaymen" paintings - they are appreciated!

I’ve had a look at a couple and I agree the sigs don’t look like the one you found here in the Thrift. Also the sig is incised into the paint usually using the blunt end of the paintbrush rather than painted as the couple I found. Think you made the right decision, it’s a lot of money to risk.

I was expecting something different as well. Not sure, maybe some WPA painting of workers on the highway??

Was curious about the artist and this category of painting after reading this thread. With some research it sort of looks like it could be by this artist HOWEVER Journey, I think you were wise to pass. Although a few are listed on Ebay at $4K plus or minus, I did not see a single one sold, and feel it would be hard to make a profit after paying $1,200. Plus the risk it wasn't original, etc. Wise to pass. JMO.

I'm sure there are a lot of local American things I don't know. Local is local.
And I must confess, given the style, I wouldn't have looked at it twice. We have similar overcoloured style paintings from Indonesia, except they have volcanoes and rice fields as well. We call them Indonesian restaurant paintings.:bag:

    Chilling, but beautiful.

I read that Johnny Cash didn't understand at first that it is about reincarnation. His daughter Rosanne had to explain it to him.:playful:
