I picked a set of four cups and saucers earlier. The pattern looks very much like a Grainger Worcester one but the mark doesn't. Any ideas anyone? Thanks.

I see FB. Looks mid 19th c. Mark might be in Goddens or if Staffordshire, at thepotteries.org.

I can see a few things there. TB or JB or maybe a faint L in the middle. I tried the potteries and they seem to have updated the site. Used to be able to get a list up of all the initials but I cant find it now.

Thnaks for the suggestion. I will look into it.

Well I've found the a to z menu but no mark still. I'm starting to think that they might not be English.

They might be French? Theodore Fenal of Badonviller springs to mind for the letters, they sometimes used FB (for Fenal Badonviller) but I don't recognise the mark. They are pretty!

That crown and wreath doesn’t look English to my eye.

Have you seen the price of Goddens? Why so much?

Just another note on the mark - it looks a little like the warrant mark of Lille...could be worth checking on makers around that area? The was a faiencerie called Boussemaert in Lille that signed FB / BF but they are too early... unless the heirs carried something on? Good luck with the hunt!

I was thinking Flight Barr, since the dragon plates were made by Royal Worcester, but I really didn't get anywhere.

Just found this on image search...can't click through though it goes nowhere.
The Japanese text says: Antique cup so not very helpful. But it is another iteration of the mark.

I was a bit suspicious of this mark tho...it looks less authentic to me (for some reason!!) So just a thought, could these be contemporary?

By contemporary do you mean modern repro poop? Very similar by the way and thanks for your efforts. What's this restaurante komeketo?

Lol yes that's what I meant I guess ... wouldn't quite have put it like that though! :bored: especially as I like them

Can't give you any info on the restaurant I'm afraid...:hilarious::hilarious:

I can't fathom why that restaurant would have that photo. Nor can I find the search results you have.

Regarding modern repro, I can't see it unless someone went to a lot of effort.. The bases of the cups, the firing crack and just the whole feel of them is pre 1900. Not something you can fully convey in photos alone I guess. 20230425_203350.jpg 20230425_203412.jpg

Sure I can see more of the wear on these pics - they would be an expensive repro for sure, they are nice quality it's obvious. It was just a thought to consider (but no doubt it's the first thing you would have thought about!) Since you have them there, you'll be the authority on the feel of them.

I've been a little obsessed with these tbh...I really love the pattern.

For the search, it was a crop, to just outside the edge of the plate that brought it up. But Google throws up different searches for everyone ... it's filtering based on your previous matches and clicks. Too clever by half IMO

I believe them to be quite old but not that valuable with it being such an obscure mark. If someone was to do a repro I think they would have chosen a more valuable mainstream mark like Worcester Granger surely? Not something that hardly anyone has heard of.

I'm just like a dog with a bone. Once I start on something I just need to satisfy my curiosity. I guess you are the same. It's like a puzzle without a solution sometimes.

Yes, it didn't look quite Englush to me either, but I've seen that dragon pattern on English china -- Coalport? Copelands? Gah, my memory is shot.

Grainger Worcester, coalport, bishop and stonier. I think it is quite a well copied pattern.

Going back to this, sorry to dig up the dead. The backstamp does look like FB. Could it be something to do with Worcester Flight and Barr? I've searched but not found this BACKSTAMP for them yet.

I did manage to pick up a copy of Goddens from Ebay for about £2.50 including postage which is a great little investment.
