    I got this at a pawn shop today, $29 (@kyratango @Any Jewelry )
The wings need straightened out and the clasp needs fixing, but I can do that.
It has the boar's head mark and a maker's mark that I can't find anywhere.
    Does anyone recognize this mark?

Gorgeous. I bet it was made in Provence, which is where these cicada brooches are worn with regional dress.

Kyra knew a great site with French maker's marks, but it has gone.:(

Aahh! You caught it ;) She is great, it is more usual to find silvered than solid silver!
Can’t add to what AJ said, I so regret the site who had a great list of French makers doesn’t provide it anymore:facepalm:
I’m lurking a nice one ending in 2 days.... Fingers crossed:joyful:

Do you have any idea about age?
I'd like to think it's 100 years old, but maybe I'm being silly.........

Great find/price ! As a Silversmith in Navajo country you've obviously developed a keen eye.
I pass Pawnbrokers every day-thnks for the brilliant tip.
***No brocantes but plenty of PB's.Eccentric weird Victorian & Nouveau fills my belly w/ joy !

Well, you should definitely stop in! They have all manner of strange items.
Most of the pawn shops around here have their fair share of turquoise jewelry, but other heirlooms show up, too.
I'm always on the hunt for sterling.

Yes, right, it is from first part of 20th. Earlier cicadas were fully modelled underneath too:)

Those sites are assets, still running.

The one I used was vienslechercher.com.
The maker’s marks list was maintained by a provincial based antique shop, the owner removed it from the site, and now I just can’t open the link to the shop:bigtears:

Lovely one! I have an aunt living in that region and I have fond memories of Summer holidays as a kid with the sound of these critters in the background.
I always pick up these cicadas when I see them...well if the price is right that is! I think they have more character as good luck charms than a horseshoe.

I love your brooch. i live in cicada country. As kids we use to take the exoskeleton and stick it on our shirt like a brooch.

I bookmarked it, but.... The search is a pain! They are even not classified in alphabetical order for searching!!!:banghead:
It must be more complete than the 925-1000 list though (their organizing is very good!)

I'm sorry, Bakers and Aqui, I should have said it in my first post, the site was French.
I looked through silvercollection and 925 yesterday, the go-to sites, but didn't find this specific mark. I didn't try Lang's, so maybe that is an idea for @stracci .
