    Hey All,

I picked up this millefiori necklace and noticed something interesting: the "flowers" are fused together on top of transparent glass beads. These "gaps" revealing the transparent beads are circled in red below. I've never seen this and was wondering if it is real Murano glass, and if so, when does it date to?

    Thank you!

Knockoff isn’t the right term. Millefiori is made all over the world and wasn’t even invented on Murano. Goes back to ancient Egypt. It’s quite common to get gaps like that, depends on how the murrines are set.

I have collected and studied Venetian beads for a number of years. Your beads appear to me to be Venetian of more recent origin. There is an interesting discussion of Venetian beads with a clear base on Jamey Allen's FB page BEADMAN- YOUR STUFF. If you search his FB page using search terms "millefiori clear base" (without quotation marks) you will see several discussions of these types of beads.
