Featured Need help identifying a large silver cross.

Hi, This beautiful cross was at the bottom of a jewelry lot from an online estate sale. Also in the box was a beautiful vintage hand strung Navajo Pearl necklace. I am trying to determine if it may be native American. It looks to me too large to wear as a necklace and may be part of a spiritual leaders outfit. It measures 4 1/4" x 3 1/3" and has lots of cross hatching on the back with a small cc or figure 8 maybe? Any help identifying or pointing me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

 

I think it is to be worn...as a Pectoral Cross.
It looks sand-cast, or tufa-cast...perhaps NA?

 

Not NA, but the back does look sandcast.

 

Ditto. There are so many different NA crosses, from several different areas, this could certainly be one of them.
Whoever made it, it is an impressive cross.

 

I think it is NA, made for the local priest.
The way the bail is soldered on and the stamping seem indicative of southwestern Native work.
Just my opinion.

 

THe design didn't "smell" NA to me, but when you're dealing with a one-off anything's possible. I can see a Priest wearing that easily enough.
