What can you say about this picture? What country and date? Who is the possible author? Didn't find a signature. 23423432.jpg 234234234234342.jpg 2342342323234234234.jpg

Without a signature, pretty much impossible to attribute. Nice Mid-century or a bit earlier European genre scene.

Maybe someone knows when the phone number would have been 3 numbers, it could help you date it :)

Frame certainly looks mid-century. According to the label József Freimann sold both art and frames.

And you knew that Arad was part of Hungary until 1918? It is now part of Romania.

In Russia, three-digit telephone numbers were used in the 1880-90s.Most likely, if for Europe, then the picture is about this time? There were no telephones in the middle of the 19th century, they have appeared since the 1870s, as I know.

You're going way too far back. That sticker is 20th century. Have you taken the painting out of the frame? A signature could be hidden below.

Starting from the 1920s, in the USSR, it seems like everywhere there were already telephones of 4-5 characters. So what is the date of the painting? I don't think it's the middle of the 20th century)).There is no signature under the frame.

When you have more telephone connections, you need a larger number of digits. Romania wouldn't have needed as many as the USSR, because it is a much smaller country.

Well, in general, Romania is a relatively large country by European standards. It's strange that they had three digit phones in the 1950s.It is necessary to look for information on the history of telephone numbers in Romania))

This article says that five-digit telephone numbers have been around since the 1930s and have become widespread. This means that the painting was most likely painted in the 1920s or early 1930s, judging by the phone number.

IMO, that would be consistent with the label.

You have already found the phone number info, but just commenting on this:
Not population-wise, which is what you need for phone numbers.;) Currently it has only 18+ million inhabitants, which is just 1 million more than little Netherlands.

At that time, about 14 million people lived in Romania.Well, I compared with countries where the population is generally 2-5 million)).

Isn't this an amateur painting? Well, it looks like some kind of artel, perhaps they sold it in parks.

I still think that the picture is 1920-30, or is it still 1950?

In Europe, they wrote such a relatively archaic painting in the 1950s?

In the USSR, artists in the 1920s and 30s painted more interesting paintings. In Soviet realism there was an even greater proportion of expressionism)).

I don't think it's mid-century although the frame appears to be which makes me think it isn't original to the painting.

I think it is at least pre-WWII. Could be 1920s as well.
That would only have been a few countries in Europe. Maybe Albania or Ireland?
The Netherlands is one of the small countries and we had about 9 million at the time, if I remember correctly.
