Staffordshire (?) man & horse vase

    This is about 9.5 inches tall and 8 inches wide. Has a fair amount of glaze flaking.

    I have searched under Staffordshire man vase horse and seen many similar, but not this particular one. There's a pretty big range of dates and prices. What time period do you think this was made? Would you call it period Staffordshire or a repro? Thanks for any help.

    More like a mule/donkey with those long ears.

    Sorry the photo did not come through. The link shows the same vase I have with its mirror image mate with a female figure.

    With a flat, unpainted back, perhaps meant to hold something else in place? Like books? Can't be a spill vase without a hole.

    It does have a hole, though it does look kind of flat in the picture. The top of the tree trunk, with the orange interior, is an open hole.

    It would stand on a narrow ledge and the flat back would be against the wall of the mantlepiece.

    Well, I don't think a repro, but the Staffordshire "period" was a long one! Been through the wars a bit.

    Jeez they are a hard sell, and that's just the original pieces

    I sold a piece the other day and asked the buyer, are you sure ?:playful:

    Cannon fodder at the moment this one
