Short and sweet. Recent online acquisition. Arriving Saturday , hopefully all in one piece. Took a gamble hoping there are a couple Georgian pieces. Advertised as salt cellars. Apprx 28 piece pots and shaker, over 40 spoons some cool figural spoons.

    What would you pay?

I counted at least 50 spoons at $3 a piece that would be $150 and most of them are cute enough t be well over that amount. I have the mini salt and pepper and mine are sterling but super light weight. I like the bulbus jelly jar? If those are salt spoons they fetch much more. I could go at leat $200

I’m quite stingy but $200 seems reasonable and I think you will make a profit.

Ooooo that would be a hard one to pass up ! Id offer $200 though it'd kill me dead . Even my cheap behind realizes these days you have to pay more than you'd want.

The shipping alone would have to be very pricey. I would only buy if it were close enough to pick up in person.

Is it a mix of sterling and silverplate? What exactly did the auction say?

Also want to know how listed. If the majority is sterling, think even the $500.00 range would be warranted. If all sterling, easily $750.00

That is the big question, I just paid the price and didn't ask questions. I saw enough to justify the purchase. To me it is better than going to the casino.

I forgot to add that I would jump on it with both feet for $200 & would be very tempted by even a $400 price tag.

I'd pounce at $200 and if it's all sterling would go $400 without hesitating too hard. And I'm a cheapskate. Those spoons are cuties but I think they're newer than at least some of the salts. Some of those do look old, but a lot of designs have been reused and they've all been polished.

I'm here I'm here and I'm so excited someone else has used the game idea!!!! This listing is really something, and there are many little clues in the photos. My answer is: if I came across this listing, I would start by figuring out how much they want for the entire group. If that total is below $500, I buy it with no additional questions. If the price is above $500, I do the following:

    1. I pick out maybe 4 or 5 of the pots that look promising to be silver, but I can't see any clue in the photos, and I ask for photos of the bottom of those.

    2. Then I ask for a few photos of about 10 of the spoons.

These photos will either increase my valuation of the listing or decrease it. Then I'd make a judgment call based on those photos.

Note: I'm not entirely discounting the spoons, but I do see some chunky ones that could be silverplated, so my $500 valuation is primarily based on the pots. People always underestimate how much silver is in a listing like this, and I think it's very reasonable that there's 2,000 grams of silver just in the pots.

And for the record, if they offered to sell me the entire lot for something less than $500.......yeah I'd do that too ;)

The majority of the holloware pieces are mustard pots rather than salts. My eyes are tired, and the images a bit fuzzy, but most of the salt spoons are fairly recent cast fantasy pieces, they are typically actually sterling, and will sell regardless. I see a few American patterns, both sterling and silverplate, but those have also been recast in sterling since at least the '70s and are still produced, the quality and marks will tell. In the lower left corner is a sterling Franklin Mint 'State Flower' miniature spoon, dating to the late '70s (they also did 'State Birds').

Hope it turns out to be a good lot for you...

Why is it that mustard pots, which are nearly useless today, are such utterly adorable, enchanting creatures?!!
