    Hello,

I ended up owning a large doll and now we are retiring and paring down our possessions in preparation for a move to Hawaii. I remember the doll being in the home I grew up in as far back as I can remember. I think the doll originally belonged to my older sister who gave it to my Mother, and then my Mother gave it to my daughter, so it ended up back in my home again. Our daughter left for college and we are trying to get rid of everything possible so I thought I would check into selling the doll. I looked online and it was easy to find info on the doll because she has clear markings on her back and on the back of her neck. Seems that she was made sometime between 1959 and 1961. I don't know if the dress is original or not, but the doll appears to be in good condition. Can anyone help me in terms of where to sell the doll and what a fair price for it is?

    Thank you,
    Brent Bowman

Was one of the places you looked on the internet eBay Completed listings? They're a good source for determining collector interest.

komokwa The Truth is out there...!

donate it to the cancer ward at your local children's hospital......

you'll be richer for it !

OR.................... and this is key !

"Our daughter left for college and we are trying to get rid of everything possible"

I hated when I went off to University and my Mom tossed a lot of my stuff.
It was her home.....but it was my stuff !

I'd advise you to check with your daughter first ...... before " getting rid of " anything that may be hers.....

.......specially anything that may have family history.....or be of sentimental value....not necessarily to you.........but to her !!!

    imho........:beaver::beaver:

Very seldom get these in England, but they can fetch hundred of pounds.
I'd just advise what has already been suggested, which is what we all do...search completed listings on ebay to see.
There are so many variables but I do know some of these are very collectible.

I'll check my books to see if I see that dress. Off hand, it looks too big on her, but check for dress labels....possible anywhere on the dress inside.

Checked my Ideal book.....not many photos of PP. The dresses shown on the ones pictured fit properly.....shorter above knee also.

Toddler size 2/3 usually fit PP, and many owners changed dresses to toddler dresses. I think that is what is on your doll. It might have been a dress of your sister's when she was a toddler.

Based on ebay sold listings, I'm guessing this 1959 doll in this condition would probably sell for around $200. I'd ask my daughter or my older sister if they wanted her.

Looking at the photos again, her face looks very shiney..............If it's sticky too, she's considered "sick".

Thanks everyone for all the info. I can't get my daughter to take the doll for some reason and my mother and sister have passed so giving it to family doesn't seem to be an option. I thought it would be good to see it go to someone that collected dolls so it would be valued and taken care of.

I was hoping to find a forum board where people buy and sell dolls, but maybe there isn't such a thing? As an adult male I don't have any experience with selling a doll, but I have collected, bought and sold other things on specialized sales boards/forums so I was hoping for something similar with dolls?

Thanks again for all the advice,

I forgot to login so my reply did not post.

If you are familiar with selling on ebay, you can sell this too.

Just be sure to you list very accurately. If she does have hard plastic disease, be sure to say so. If the face is sticky, she has it.

A local newspaper ad might be the way to go......or put her in a consignment shop. An ebay buyer could claim misrepresentation, and send it back.........or send back whatever they fell like sending................

Bearing in mind I am in the UK and only really know English dollies ... could be wrong but isn't this doll vinyl, not HP?
If so, in this case, don't think it's a *disease* per se,
I think it's more like the Ponytail Barbie which gets shiny, when the plastiser is leaking.
I have a leaky face Ponytail and whilst it's not Ideal ( see what I did there‽)
I just wash the face every year or so and put powder on it and she's good for the next 12 ish months (though she is in The Hoarditoriam...somewhere and I don't remember having seen her for a year ... or*two* :O)

I could be wrong but @Brent Bowman will know.
Is her head hard plastic, or vinyl ? xxx

( Edit to add: there are two types of disease in dollies ... the English one ( which is vile, Pedigree doll disease/Hard Plastic Disease) and the US one which does affect vinyl dolls, but I think it makes them smell of baby vom and doesn't make them shiny, per se? )
