Help with this tool

    This item came home with me by mistake, it was hanging on the stepping stool i purchase...curious to know what it is used for. it looks like tongs? It's made out of iron, has the hanging hook but the tongs don't seem to be sturdy enough to hold something of weight....any information would be greatly appreciated...     folding coat hanger.... place in wardrobe and they change into tupper ware lids or spare socks
