Pleases Help Identify this Old Painting / Artist Signature

This painting belongs to my parents and they inherited it from a relation in London, it was found in my relations London house's attic in the 1970's

I am struggling to identify the signature on this piece

I have included photos

The size of the painting is 19 1/2 inches wide by 9 1/2 inches high

It is painted on a type of thick paper I believe

It is very well painted and looks very old

 

Can't help ID it for you but I like it.

Unfortunately there is what looks like water damage along the left edge. Fortunately it can be restored if it proves to be worth the cost of restoration.

That's what I thought as well. To my eye, it appears to be a turnish-of-the-century decorative work. May we see a photograph of the back please? And has the original frame gone walkabout?

Here's the signature, 2.5 times enlarged....a simple enough looking signature, but that doesn't make it any easier to identify!!!! I'm not sure WHAT to make of it!!! First letter kind of looks like a lower case script 'h' then 'y' then I'm just not sure....'m' then another 'h'....not that it makes any sense to me!
It is a nice serene painting though!!

Think this is a decorative work and the signature may be spurious. While old, decorative works such as this were often available in furniture stores and galleries. Not exactly like the factory work we see in later years but not fine art.

 

Yes, I agree. Not fine art. Value sentimental.

Thanks for the interesting reply, unfortunately the frame was not with it when found, agree that would have helped in working out age / history if it was there and original.

Thanks Deborah, No sentimental value to me but if sentiments = pounds then I can be as sentimental as one would wish!

 

Would guess sometime 30-40s.

 

The signature might be Myrah, a woman's name. Looks like the work of a skilled, but amateur artist, working in watercolor and gouache. You might try looking for that name in the family genealogy.
