They're not going far, the hand-written ones anyway. The cookbook was somebody's gamer, and I don't know what all is in it yet; she punched holes in some envelopes and put those in there. Probably recipe cards, but one way to find out.

In baseball, it's the glove you prefer to use in every single game. The use has since broadened to a favorite tool of any sort.

Wandered into a Charity shop early afternoon today, found these UnoAerre Italian 18ct earrings. Marks on posts and back, 750, AR1 with UnoAerre mark. Paid £1.99, made my day.

The backs were the first good clue, then the post being gold coloured too, could see some tiny marks, they did seem a bit light in weight in my hand but was worth the £1.99 as they were wearable for me if they were only plated. Happy to be wrong.

For two quid? Aww heck yes. Gold-colored posts are always a good sign. Just under L350 for 2 is what I'd call a good deal!

Made a run to a local soup kitchen charity shop in the notorious North End of Hartford, CT. A lot of people won't go down there, but it reminds me of going train hunting with my dad as a kid. The soup kitchen is literally next to the railroad tracks! Anyway, I make it a point to drop $10 in there every so often, because I've got food and a roof over my head.

Bought my $10 today and hit some good scores almost by mistake - two necklaces, a bracelet and a stack of small plates. Started a thread on the plates because they're marked in what looks like Japanese.
The bracelet was a score - bakelite, found in the wild! It's a persmimmon color in person, and had an old paper label inside that's newer than the bakelite. Go figure. Smells like formaldahyde when tested with baking soda, weighs a ton and the texture felt right from the jump. Cost me $2.
The single-strand necklace is smoky quartz, double-checked by my idiot diamond tester. Sterling clasp. The multi, which cost $2, is most likely glass but clasp tests like silver.

I was thinking the same thing. It is one of the things I always look for! Especially, since Passover is near. However, any old recipe I am drawn too.

Do I see TWO bakelite bracelets, and a Liberty Head dollar? Maybe a Warner butterfly?

Only the black and red one is Bakelite, yes on the coin and the butterfly is Weiss most likely made by D&E :)

Couple finds this week that are a bit different than what I normally gravitate to.

17" boat propeller. Likely bronze. Looks like it has had a bit of use. $6.00 at the thrift.

This wood carving is by Rupert P. Kreider (1897-1983). He is the so-called Hobo Carver who traveled the Midwest selling his carvings to get by. He eventually settled in Arkansas at the Squirrel Trading Post where his carvings were sold on a regular basis. I was attracted to the detail and engaging, albeit a bit creepy, pose. $8.00 at the thrift store. This is more than I would usually pay for such a thing but I had a hunch that this was better than most. Signed R. P., I found that to be his typical signature for smaller carvings.

That's nice. Like the strong contrapposto and the way the accordion's keys mimic his teeth.
