    According to that, it's a Singer 15K from 1929.

    Checks out.

If it's solid wood, odds are it's oak. At least if it's an American machine.

    15K is the model number.

Means was made in Kilbowie, Clydebank. So it's Scottish.

Yeah, that's a Singer 15, alright. It's missing the wooden cover that goes over the top of the machine. And the drawers on the sides.

No! I have the wooden cover, it just doesn't show up in the photo.

The drawer is not there, although my grandmother thinks it must be somewhere in the closet. Anyway I've already been looking and if I can't find it I'm going to buy one. Although there are machines with two drawers, in theory this one only has one, on the other side there is no space for another drawer.

I suppose that although it is not an American machine, as they said before, the wood is oak.

From what I can see, it looks like an oak veneer. Finish is so bad that it obscures the grain but think I see a bit on the one corner.

You can always take a wire brush or steel wool to remove excess rust. If not planning on using this outside, that should be enough. Today's rust inhibiting paints are pretty good at stabilizing rust. If you want to be super meticulous or plan on using outside, a rust stabilizing primer can be used. This is a product I have used before but there are probably others.
