Here is this small modernely framed ink drawing of a skinny horse...11x8cm only drawing.
I might put a bet on it this week end...Maxi 20 Euros ..I will Maximum
It is framed modern (out)and look very old (inside) chev1.jpg chev3.jpg chev2.jpg chev1.jpg chev2.jpg chev3.jpg in the manner of ..???
It remind me Rocinante...Don Quichotte Horse...This drawing is for sure older than XIXth cent I think...??? But no signature or inscription on it... Not a print or engraving..!!! 100% original.
You might have an idea on whom might have done this wee drawing..??? similar sketch drawings from books or illustrated collections...???
Thanks in advance for your usual knowledge and expertises...Auction is on Sunday..!!!!

Rocinante sounds good to me. There is something of a caricature to the drawing. No idea who did it. Looks like it's on laid paper, which would support the idea of its being older, 18thC(?), likely but not a sure thing. I don't think you'll go wrong at 20€.

The form of the lines looks more like a type of etching, to me - long squiggly and erratic lines. More like a stylus through a medium than pen and ink. The work is matted too closely to see if there is a plate mark.

It's possible, but I think the darkest areas are inconsistent with an etched texture.

Medium looks like bistre & quill to me,but the pics are a wee bit blurry to tell.

I would think that the ink drawing is possibly larger and it is covered by the mount or insert.Possibly even a signature under mount.I would speculate 20€ on it. Maybe" better bet than picking the winner of the National"

Heck ya. Attractive frame, work appears to have some genuine age.

Or perhaps thinks he knows. Personally I find it a very intriguing drawing. Im still in 2 minds but overall 175 does seem alot and too risky (I think :))

Much of it has to do w/ simply studying hundreds/thousands of 16th-19th century pen & inks.Watch the BBC series 'Fake or Fortune' to see how top-notch dealers in New York,London & Paris evaluate 'sleeper' purchases. They're gambling 2-200K on an educated guess (after decades of research/study).
Lets hope we all get to find out who did this rather good sketch.

You don't know if it was a dealer who bought it hoping to make a profit, or a collector who just really liked it and was willing to pay a (potentially high) retail price.

Sorry...It is the cartoon mounting surounding the picture.
