Is this old card/game token(?) just vintage or actually antique?

ETA- I missed “box in the title! Sorry!
I picked up this old box yesterday. I will use it for jewellery or bits and bobs but it was clearly originally intended and used for gaming bits (whist? Yeah, I've been reading Jane Austen lately ). I would be thrilled to bits for any information about it. Era, wood type, how originally used? Anything!

    What I know:
    - It is wood and seems to have no nails, etc.
    - The frames for the suit symbols are wood (I plan to try and make a replacement for the missing 4th)
    - The suit symbols look handpainted on ceramic. If anyone knows how I might find replacements- yes please!
-The base has the remnants of leathery paper - it leaves a gummy residue on sweaty finger tips.

The pictures suck and I apologise profusely! If there is any further view that would help, lemme know! I think I have more photos than will fit in the post so there may be more in comments once I get this up.

Thanks so much for looking and any help!

Haha! Probably, at the thrifts I seem to open every unmarked box of old poker chips to see what's inside. It's like they call to me. I don't play poker.

How funny. Mate of mine was selling one just like this on Saturday. It had contents, from memory, playing cards. Georgian.

I’m trying to remember the wood used on his, it was a bit darker. Yours looks elm, or possibly boxwood.

That's the path I was on from what I could tell online. I tend to see more dark wood stuff here so if it isn't clearly maple or pine I just haven"t seen it enough.

I just can't get over you seeing one on the same day I got mine!
