I may gift one and sell the other. The sad part is the estate sale runner didn't think anyone would want the handwritten recipes and hadn't priced the box.:eek::eek: Kind of bass-ackward if you ask me! I may go back Monday and make sure I didn't miss anything. They advertised "some jewelry" but it enough in my opinion to be bothered.

When I left a some Waterford was still sitting. It's not moving much any more unless it's wine glasses. So was a plate from my mom's former formal dinnerware. It was a 60s pattern, but we gave the whole mess away to my cousin years ago. (made a happy camper out of said cousin, and my Mom who wanted it outta here.)

I have my mom's recipe box with her recipes.

Many estate sale runners USED to think that these recipes were not worth much, but after a while, they woke up and now they are charging more.
I have some here that I have to sell, when and if I get back to selling.

I'm trying to psyche myself to get back into the selling arena. My one consolation-it'll be my Last Ebay Rodeo ! I've heard that buyers have gotten a bit more barbaric in the last 10 years(?) we'll see.

A bit? Forget the buyers, eBay themselves will find new and improved ways to screw sellers if and when possible. Consider yourself warned.

Eveley-That's what I've heard from I'd say 90%+ of folks on the board.
Can't fig an alternative & don't want to be insulted by Dealers.
FB Mkt,Craigslist,Offer-Up,just seem like a way to meet cheapskate oddballs in person-I'm at a loss ?

If you sell it on FeedBag, use Fixed Price and Immediate Payment Required. Keeps yahoos from buying and never paying. Clothes and electronics are the worst offenders when it comes to attracting scammers. Also - never EVER communicate with a buyer off the platform. One classic scam is offering to pay with Paypal off site, and then sending a fake Paypal payment email. I think you can finally report those scammy emails on the platform.

There are some other sites depending on what you're selling, but a lot of things are better off being sold locally for less money but getting cash.

Got to Ebay via offers I got frm Jewelers,Refiners & Coiners for a 14K/19.3g Albert Fob-$425.00-$550.00.
The closest I found on Ebay Sold were $490-$960 for fobs weighing 4-5 g's less.
PS-Rather sell local for cash but past sales to local Dealers leaves me squeamish. They're every bit as frugal as me-no blame, but when you're on the short (dumb) end,it's tough.
PSS-Thanks for the excellent tips re:Fixed Price and Immediate Payment Required. Is 'No Returns' a good idea ?

I like those sorts of Indian illustrations too. They're harder to find here, or have been. Now that we're getting more Indian immigrants they may show up more often.

Selling on eBay isn't a good idea, period, for anything valuable. Ever. I repeat: NEVER SELL ANYTHING ON EBAY YOU CAN'T AFFORD TO TOSS INTO THE TRASH, WITH L20 ON TOP. Period. A local dealer may pay less, but it's deal done. No Returns is just begging some scammer to bite you. Hard. It does not mean final sale or no refunds. It just means they can steal from you with impunity.

Only about 10 times. But someone always thinks they can make real money that way.

Bits from yesterday. Went back today and found another hand-written cookbook to rescue, and an olive wood mortar and pestle. Or a bowl really. It's smallish, but for $7 I wasn't yowling.

Yesterday: Gold and lapis oval earrings, oval costume with 14k posts, ivory button earrings with what looks like costume backs. 80s Modernist triangle-ish earrings I need to test for silver yet. No marks. Heart ring - no marks, but the black looks like carved onyx.

Glass cat, unsigned but possibly St Clair - found a signed piece in the house. Sterling mate spoons, sets of 6 and 4. Sterling baby cup. Letter opener/knife with sterling sides. (for $2? sure!) Sterling handle cream cheese and lox set. (cream cheese spreader, fish knife, bread/bagel knife) I've found these before. The recipes are all Jewish and the house had a mezuzah on the door. Speaking of recipes, one of the boxes is a typed/duped set from a local synagogue (Orthodox) and the other is mostly handwritten/copied.

Left the overpriced "weighted" sterling compotes and candlesticks where they still sat today. The candlesticks were $68/pair, and the compotes were over $200 for the pair. I have a hunch the family insisted, and will be taking them home.
