Just picked up this 46 1/2 inch sash at the Thrift.I wonder if anyone out there could tell me who made it ? I'm leaning towards African but it's just a guess. Thanks for the help.
P.S.-Sorry,didn't know if to post in Textiles or Tribal. sash1.jpg sash4.jpg sash5.jpg sash9.jpg

Out of abyssal ignorance, but with complete confidence, I'll offer Central or South American origin.
If that isn't right, I'll always wish it had been!

First thing I thought too Whit. These Tribal-Ethno motifs have those archetypal shapes n' rhythms that are mighty similar-expert eyeballs ahoy !

That proportion always makes me think of Guatemala.

I'd say Central American somewhere rather than African. Guatemala sounds close enough.

That makes sense. The pattern isn't one I'd associate with Central America.

That is a typical width for kente strips.

I would go with the Kente cloth. I have a number of the Guatemalan ones and they are only 2"- 2.5" wide. Belt size.

Thanks All ! Thinking of getting more strips of Kente cloth & sewing them together for a wall piece/pillow covers-who knows ? It's beautiful material in person,if i can find more for $2 a strip i won't gripe !
PS-Just found Kente at $9 a yard at Joann Fabrics, have to see if it's a machine woven copy or hand done in Africa. It's make a decent back drop, even for my NA collection.

Hmm...3 types of Kente- "Kente production can be classified by three versions: 1.Authentic Kente cloth made by traditional weavers / 2.Kente Print produced by brands such as Vlisco & Akosombo Textile Ltd / 3.Mass-Produced Kente pattern typically produced in China for Westerners."
