Please help me ID these very unique containers. I have been doing a lot of research and tell you a little bit about what I have found. First of all, the words that are used:

Alkekenci is a Chinese Lantern plant. Persic means Persian. Elorum was a river in Sicily.

I believe these wood containers were holding plant materials brought from the new world in the 1700's...or am I just dreaming?

At any rate, they are really very special antiques of some kind!

    Thank you for looking!

The only similar ones I can find were a set of 3 with the same finish for sale and duplicated on pinterest.

I'm a bit unsure about the painted finish which can be used to create a false antiquey effect and my first reaction was that these might be repro BUT the absence of many similar ones on the market argues against that.

As an example some unscrupulous sellers are selling OUD Delft modern repros as antiques.

So for me the jury is out on date, sorry :(

I am quite sure these are relatively modern.Latter part of the 20th C. There was a fad for decorating kitchens with old or old looking jars, etc. Kitchen taste has changed so you will not see so many on offer nowadays.

Not really, I did an image search on the pic your posted and got to the website. Your pic was really from a different website that didn't have the page up any longer, but somehow the designtrade website had them also? It was you Rhiw that found them.
