Well as they say in the movies “the plot thickens”. Soldier boy with the broken rifle sold for $80 and I got this androgynous one for $30 and discovered some interesting things. Firstly it became obvious from the front that it was a three part figurine with the arms stuck on. Not absolutely sure about the head but if it is stuck on then it’s a very good job. The next discovery was a bit of a shock. At the back there was a wall mount fixture and closer inspection revealed it was a crude home made job with two odd size wood screws fitted. Inspection of the spike mount seems to show some kind of black pitch like substance used to glue the spike in. The figurine doesn’t have a snake around its midriff but looks more like a bedding roll an ancient soldier would carry with him so I’m thinking the sword and shield business is most likely although the pose is still quite wacky. It’s beginning to look like some Georgian/Victorian curiosity collector picked up or looted this figurine and first crudely wall mounted it then later rudely stand mounted it. I would just love to know how old this figurine is.

    Thoughts everyone??

    Data – Figurine 17.1cm High (21.3cm with stand), base 7.3cm Round, 190grams

It appears to me that the two huge hands were glued on too ... Joy.

Nope. Hands and arms are one piece. Just noticed the left foot has been broken and glued back on at some stage.

It is interesting .. I don't really understand it but it drives me crazy to not know its origins .. sometimes there never is an answer, ... Joy.

I still think folk art baby Jesus missing a crown. And missing his mum of course.
These are not folk art, but do have a twist:

I get a 1930s vibe off it. Something about the chunkiness, but of course I could be WAY off.

Jivvy the research is my favorite

I have just spent too much time trying to sort this pose by replicating it.
