Featured Here's my amber bead necklace

The discussion on kard's thread about his amber necklace prompted me to dig my own amber bead necklace out. It was first shown on eBay's jewelry board over a year ago back when I wasn't sure of what I had found. It has since been taken to the local lapidary where he confirmed that they are true old, hand made, amber beads.

There is crackling on the surface of every bead - some worse than others ... possibly caused by the age of the beads or from perfume / lotion transferred from the previous owner ... or a combination of both.

Most beads have 'something' inside ... several clearly have insects.

46" long ... beads vary but average 10mm X 12mm in size - drilled through their shorter diameter.

I'm not asking questions (for a change ;) ) But didn't want to hijack kard's thread ... and others also mentioned their own amber ... maybe this could be a "show us your amber" thread

Very nice... I do have an amber necklace but it was brand new 10 years ago, bought at a museum shop in Russia. It was not cheap. I hope it's really amber! :):):)

Indeed. I'd had it for about thirty years but didn't wear it. I like clear amber better and longer necklaces. So, when I looked at what butterscotch was fetching, it got sold. ;) I still have a LOT of amber.

I don't have proper lighting conditions and just took a quick shot, so you can't really see it well. The necklace was from the museum shop in The Hermitage museum in St. Petersburg, Russia. I also remembered the bracelet, which has thinly-sliced pieces of amber. The bracelet was ordered from an art museum in the United States.

I could have gotten a better photo in natural daylight, but you can get the idea, I hope.

Oooh! All those different shades of amber look pretty together. :)

Not jewelry, but here's a Danish Skonvirke spoon by Grann & Laglye with amber inset, 1922:
