Makanudo There is no such thing as simple.Simple is hard.

Just bought this today and not done cleaning it yet.
It doesnt have markings but I am not sure that it is Old Sheffield plate either, or that it is old at all.
    Any thoughts? IMG_20151113_001003.jpg IMG_20151113_001259.jpg IMG_20151113_001110.jpg

Not old enough to be "Old Sheffield Plate." Maybe not even old enough to be an "antique" in the strict sense of the term. Without markings, it may not even be silverplated.

I know.... It was extremely covered in rust and dirt that nothing was visible at the spot, but the connecting part between top and bottom reminded me of OSP and I took a shot

The three "holders" make me think of bar/restaurant or hotel use from the 20th Century. How big are they? Might even be for cigars.

The ashtray is 10x10cm and holders are too narrow for my index finger. I had to clean them with finger going sideways

The thing feels classy and sturdy though... Feels silvery.

    Hi,
It is possible that it is chrome plated.

    Hence the shine...
If its post 1930s it probably is chrome plated and if its from some hotel like Bakersgma says it is post 1950.
Never mind it is my first metal ashtray and I somehow like it

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

I think you posted appropriately, since you were wondering whether it was silver plated.
